Buffalo Breeding Farm – Bhuj

In 2010, the Banni Buffalo was recognized as 11th distinct breed of buffalo in the country, with accession no. INDIA_BUFFALO_0400_BANNI_01011 by National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources – Karnal.

Buffalo Breeding Farm for Banni buffalo has been established at Cattle Breeding Farm – Bhuj, Kutch

High genetic merit buffalo bulls for natural service are supplied to Grampanchayat, Gaushalas and Panjarapoles, where facilities for artificial insemination are not available. These bulls are supplied from Buffalo Breeding Farm at token price on recommendation of District Animal Husbandry Officer. During the year 2017-18, total 06 Banni buffalo bulls are supplied for breeding at token price.

Since the establishment of Banni Buffalo Farm, herd of Banni buffalo is reared with Kankrej cattle at Cattle Breeding Farm – Bhuj in same infrastructural facilities. Government has sanctioned the separate infrastructure for Banni Buffalo Breeding Farm at Aerodram site under state sponsored scheme. Construction work has been undertaken by the Road and Building department, which is on the verge of completion.
