Cattle Breeding Farm – Bhutvad, Dist. Rajkot

With an objective for conservation and improvement of Indigenous Cattle Breed i.e Gir, Cattle Breeding Farm has been established at Bhutvad during the year 1987-88.

Cattle Breeding Farm has been handed over to Gujarat Livestock Development Board during the year 2006.

Efforts have been made to conserve the pure breed by scientific rearing of animals at Cattle Breeding Farm.

High genetic merit bulls for natural service are supplied to Grampanchayat, Gaushalas and Panjarapoles, where facilities for artificial insemination are not available. These bulls are supplied from Cattle Breeding Farm at token price on recommendation of District Animal Husbandry Officer. During the year 2017-18, total 15 Gir bulls have been supplied for breeding at token price.

Facilities for fodder production are available at Cattle Breeding Farm. During the year 2017-18 total 3,33,525 kg green fodder produced.

For conservation and production of Gir cattle and Jaffrabadi buffalo of Saurastra region and to fulfill the demand of frozen semen doses of these breeds, Frozen Semen Station is established at Bhutvad site under state sponsored scheme. Construction of Frozen Semen Station is in progress.
