Cattle Breeding Farm – Thara, Dist. Banaskantha

With an objective for conservation and improvement of Indigenous Cattle Breed i.e Kankrej, Cattle Breeding Farm has been established at Thara during the year 1966.

Cattle Breeding Farm has been handed over to Gujarat Livestock Development Board during the year 2006.

Efforts have been made to conserve the pure breed by scientific rearing of animals at Cattle Breeding Farm.

High genetic merit bulls for natural service are supplied to Grampanchayat, Gaushalas and Panjarapoles, where facilities for artificial insemination are not available. These bulls are supplied from Cattle Breeding Farm at token price on recommendation of District Animal Husbandry Officer. During the year 2017-18, total 15 bulls have been supplied for breeding at token price.

Facilities for fodder production are available at Cattle Breeding Farm. During the year 2017-18 for animals maintained at farm, 95,100 kgs of dry fodder and 5,74,000 kgs of green fodder are produced.

Under the component Upgradation of Existing Cattle Breeding Farm to Bull Mother Farm of Breed Improvement Project in Trible area, construction work of Bull Mother Farm for Kankrej Cattle is at the verge of completion.
