Private A.I. Centers

Establishment of Private Artificial Insemination Worker

  • With a view to provide Artificial Inseminations services at the door step of the animal owner, Gopalmitra centers – Private AI Centers were being established by Gujarat Livestock Development Board – Gandhinagar in Gujarat state under National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB).
  • For this Private AI Centers private Artificial Insemination workers were selected by GLDB and after due class room training and practical training for Artificial Insemination they are given Artificial Insemination kits. Frozen semen doses are provided to them @ Rs. 20/- per dose and for maintenance of this doses LN2 & other consumables are provided through different district co-operatives & ICDP of department of A.H.
  • Looking to the vast area under animal husbandry, it is quite difficult to cover the whole state under Artificial Insemination services by government institutions. Especially the remote and hinterland areas having very scanty Artificial Insemination infrastructure and high illiteracy rate are worst affected. Here scrub bulls are employed for breeding, which are prone to STD (sexually transmitted diseases) infection as they are not tested for STD. Also they may lead to genetic degradation as their productivity potential is unknown, which ultimately lead to lower productivity.
  • This is why the door step AI services are provided by approximately 426 Private Artificial Insemination workers.
