There are four Cattle Breeding Farms under GLDB in Gujarat for conservation and improvement of indigenous Cattle.

  • In these farms, pure breeds are conserved and produced male calves which are used for natural service in the field condition. They also sell male calves in reasonable prices for improvement and conservation of pure indigenous breeds.
  • GLDB are going to establish Bull Mother Farms for Gir and Kankrej Cattle.
  • GLDB are also going to propose plan for pedigree selection programme for Gir cattle in Gujarat.
  • GLDB has State Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute at Patan which rearing high genetic merits breeding bulls. This institute produced 15, 49, 080 high quality frozen semen doses in a year 2011-12. These semen doses are used in Artificial Insemination Network in Gujarat state for better improvement of pure breeds.
  • Different type extension activities are carried out in different region of the Gujarat which helps for conservation of pure breeds
  • Fertility improvement programmes, Health Camps, mass vaccination etc. are carried out for better health of livestock
  • AI workers shall be chosen from unemployed educated rural youth so as to generate employment and avoid addition of establishment cost for the government department.
  • These workers should be chosen from local area, as they know the area and utility of timely AI service. They will also be able to supplement their income without leaving their native place.
  • AI is skilled zoo-technique and requires minimum academic standards. It will not be proper to fix the minimum qualification for this below 10th class and it may not be necessary to look for higher qualification beyond 10+2.
  • Minimum age for AI worker may be fixed at 18 years.
  • Envisages insurance of the cross-breed and high yielding cattle and buffalos at their present market value against their death.
  • Envisages 50% subsidy on the cost of premium with entire cost of subsidy to be borne by the Central Government.
  • One time insurance subsidy for an animal up to a maximum period of three years.
  • Execution of the scheme through State Livestock Development Boards to facilitate easy flow of funds.
  • Provision for payment of honorarium th the Veterinary Practitioners at the rate of Rs.50/- per insured animal at the time of insurance and at the rate of Rs.100/- per claim at the time disposal of claim made by the beneficiaries for their services under the scheme.
  • Provision of payment of Commission to the agents by the Insurance Companies.
  • Involvement of Panchayat Raj Institution for indentification of beneficiary's assessment of the market value of the animal to be insured awareness creation and promotion of the scheme
