Rastriya Gokul Mission

Main objectives of this scheme are as under:

  • To undertake breed improvement programme for indigenous cattle breeds so as to improve the genetic makeup and increase the stock.
  • To enhance milk production and productivity of indigenous bovines.
  • To upgrade nondescript cattle using elite indigenous breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, Rathi, Deoni, Tharparkar, Red Sindhi.
  • To distribute disease free high genetic merit bulls of indigenous breeds for natural service.

Main component implemented under this scheme are as under:

  • Kamdhenu & Gopalratna Awards
  • N.M.B.P.

Gokul Gram Yojana:

  • Gokul Grams act as Centres for development of indigenous Breeds.
  • Gokul Gram is a dependable source for supply of high genetic breeding stock to the farmers in the breeding tract.
  • The Gokul Gram will be self-sustaining and will generate economic resources from sale of Indigenous cow milk, organic manure vermi-composting, urine distillates, and production of electricity from bio gas for in house consumption and sale of animal products.
  • The Gokul Gram will also function as state of the art in situ training centre for Farmers, Breeders and AI Technicians.
  • Each Gokul Gram will be set up by and function under the auspices of the SIA/ End Implementing Agency (EIA) or in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
  • The Gokul Gram will maintain milch and unproductive animals in the ratio of 60:40 and will have the capacity to maintain about 1000 animals.
  • Natritional requirements of the animals will be provided in the Gokul Gram through in house fodder production.
  • Disease free status of Gokul Gram will be maintained through regular screening of animals for important diseases like brucellosis, TB and JD.
  • Assistance by Central Government is provided for components like cattle shed for adult animals & progeny, irrigation, rain water harvesting, veterinary dispensary, bulk milk cooler, biogas plant for electricity generation etc. as per approval of project.

Gir cow Century - Dharampur- Porbandar:

Under Rastriya Gokul Mission for conservation & breeding of indigenous breeds centers throughout the country were to be established. In context to this project for establishment of Gir Cow Sanctury at Dharampur-Dist: Porbandar was sanctioned @ Rs. 4182.34 lakh. Administrative approval of rs. 1446.44 lakh was given and Rs. 773.22 lakh was released as first installment. State Implementing Agency for this project is Gujarat Livestock Development Board & End Implementing Agency is Junagadh Agriculture University.Construction of Three cattle Shed, Fodder & Concentrate Store, Overhead Tank & Under Ground Water sump & Compound wall is near to completion.

During the year: 2017-18 Rastriya Gokul Mission project sanctioning committee has approved two new project: For Gir Cow by sumul dairy Surat for Rs. 1257.00 lakh & For Kankrej Cow by Banas Dairy, Banskantha for Rs. 897.00 lakh.

Kamdhenu & Gopalratna Award:

In order to motivate farmers for rearing of indigenous breeds and increase and increase population of indigenous breeds along with their pro duction and productivity following awards are instituted under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission both at National : (1) "Gokul Ratna” Awards: to Farmers maintaining the best herd of Indigenous Breed(s) and practicing best management practices and (2)”Kamdhenu” Awards : to Best managed Indigenous Herd by Institutions/Trusts/ NGOs/ Gaushalas or best managed Breeders’ Societies.

National Mission for Bovine Productivity:

This scheme is implemented on 60% central Government Share & 40% State Government Share basis.

Pashu Sanjivani Scheme:

This is the animal wellness programme. Under this project animals are ear tagged with unique I.D. number. Information of animals are uploaded in INAPH software and national database is created. Nakul Swathya Card is provided to Farmers. In first phase target is to cover approximately 10.00 lakh animals.
